Ravelry: milesss' hell of scraps and bits (chicken shawl)
started a new project, finally
it's a shawl made of various bits of yarn of varying lengths i got from a sweater of my dad's that had holes in the elbows. it's also unwittingly kind of my school colors. im super excited, the pattern name also rlly matches the yarn colors bc,, these are chicken colors so it'll be like a chicken
I saw the detail of the dick on these socks and I had to buy them
hey can i get a good shot of the full image on that sock? for. reasons
so the librarian and her math teacher friend have been very kind to me so i'm working on dice bags for their upcoming dnd campaign and it requires dpns which I WAS NOT PREPARED FOR
3 needles?? that is completely unneccessary!!! there is no need for three needles! my poor hands can't handle it!!!!
@smallest-spiderweb watched me nearly lose my shit just trying to get this far
(here's the pattern if you'd like to see it)
if the dpns are bothering you so much you could find a circular that's the right size and magic loop the excess.
honestly i just use circulars for everything. any needles i have that ARENT circulars are just, why throw away what you might as well use. circulars're a lot easier on my wrists, too
Lots of blue. Dirty desk
thanks for the hot tip on ravelry, thought i'd check them out and see it's also for crochet! (which i'm trying desperately to learn lmao) the pride flag on the front page is also a nice touch
yeah they also explicitly banned nazis a while back 🎉
if i may ask! how would you suggest going about picking up knitting?
step 1: learn to cast on
step 2: do your best
step 3: learn to cast off
step 4: wear your monstrosity
to be more specific:
there's a lot of good knitting tutorials on youtube, but what you really need is someone irl who knows how to knit and can keep an eye on you (otherwise you get Me, Who Doesn't Flip At The Ends Of Rows And Has To Mentally Recalculate Patterns) and can answer questions and tell you if you're doing it right. see if there's a knitting group in your area you can go to.
bulky yarn. big needles. it's easier to see what you're doing. they make a kind of needle that's specifically for beginners that the two needles are a different color and i'm not sure why and i'm pretty sure it's the reason i don't flip at the ends of rows now. on the bright side lacework is way easier to visualize
start with a scarf, it's just a big rectangle. if you fuck something up, tie off anything that might end up unravelling (experienced knitters are good for identifying these) and just keep going.
that's how you get my first scarf, which has a place where i added 5 sts and took them off the other side that's perfect for covering the back of my head/neck, and a nose hole so i dont fog up my glasses. and also several loops of yarn hanging off the sides.
also, get on ravelry. lots of fun patterns there, also forums, here's two active ones i found for beginners, plus one of the profile questions is what your favorite curse word is. im milesss!
finished this shawl a few weeks ago! it is very warm
the pattern is called I Shawl Build My Fortress by Fran Carle
Treillage Lace Scarf and Wrap by Krista Werbil
owo what's this
critera 2) is this pattern easy enough that i can focus on other things while knitting it
rephrased:
this pattern is simple, yet complex. it engages my brain without distracting me from what's going on around me. essentially the perfect adhd knitting pattern.
other:
it's also incredibly versatile, you can knit it with basically any weight, and can easily change the width by adding or subtracting intervals of 16 sts.
i made a knitting pattern review blog based solely on if it helps me focus in class
Pictures I've been meaning to post
First two pictures are of the Horseshoe lace. I had to use the yarn bowl to get the lace stretched so I could take the picture.
The third picture is Ceres Lace current length well I did four more rows after the picture was taken...
The fourth picture is simply a close up of the accidental lace panels.
The current last picture is of Jupiter's current length. I'll be finishing up with the buttonhole section by Sunday. I'll edit with the finished/pre-blocking picture once I have.
I'll also post the picture of the birthday scarf once it's been washed/dried.

20. any art sins you have committed? any crimes? atrocities to the eyes of the artists world?
no arts are sins under the eyes of Me (except for men who's photography profile is just a hundred pics of naked women)
i uhhhhhh once took a pic of a cloud shaped like a penis lol
i drew a snake flipping someone off (who is actually just cham, shaped vaguely like a snake with an arm sticking out of her coils)
OHHH FUCK I FORGOT ABOUT THE HAT
i once knit a hat with dicks on it, where if you folded up the brim it just looked kind of like there were hearts under there, but then you fold it down and nope! turns out they were actually balls
seriously considering starting knit commissions here on waterfall bc I’m pretty sure y’all would actually appreciate the work as opposed to people I’ve knit things for in the past. might be an interesting use of that commissions market when it gets off the ground...
oh same
hey guys look at what I made!!!!! it came off the needles today and I wove in most of the ends. blocking comes tomorrow. I’m so excited!!
its the hearts of pride cowl. the pattern was written by a friend of mine.
ohhh it came out so well!!!
[ID: a grey knitted cowl with offset rows of hearts in the colors of the bi pride flag - two rows pink, two rows purple, and two rows blue. end ID]
Vikings – What is something you want to get better at? What is one of your skills?
i am not :( i might get one at some point though now that you mention it.......we'll see
well they got a pride flag up rn and they banned trump supporters
just got hashtag fired
that's a joke. the bookkeeper fucked up and now they cant afford me
Awww fuck that. Did you like need to keep the job and shit or does it not matter much?
i'm not, like, responsible for my own life yet since im still living with my mom, but it would be nice to have a job so i can pay for shit later. it also means i don't have a job to come back to next summer so i'll have to figure that out
idk if anyone wants a knitted thing im thinking of starting commissions
im not going to tell u bc you'll just bully me
I've been working on a cot blanket for almost 6 months, and i'm only 2 thirds done, blankets take fo fu!$ing ever
i get you! this one was originally meant to be a baby blanket but i accidentally put too many stitches while casting on so it's closer to twin size :') i think i started work on it last spring and i've been working on it sporadically ever since
i don't know anything about knitting but i was crocheting a blanket for like a year then i just kinda, stopped. blankets take so many spoons to make because it takes so long!!!
god yeah that's a mood. my grandma could crochet extremely fast and she must have made like 80 blankets in her life and i Don't Know How She Did It. the only two "big" things ive made besides the blanket have been a raglan sweater and a big scarf
i had this scarf i was knitting for a solid 6ish years entirely in stockinette because i don't know how to knit
it's offically titled "long ass scarf" because i put it in an lgbtq art show last semester and they needed a name for it and it's minimum 20 ft long
if i hosted a knitting/crochet/yarncraft power hour on twitch or rabb.it or skype or discord would anybody be interested? i've extended this offer to my extremely limited twitter following, my slightly larger tumblr/knitblr following, and now to you all, my favourite my most-likely-to-respond group.
like/repour if you're interested (like for real. don't just like it to like it)
since the pattern i'm using for this doily-coaster-trivet is supposed to be knit back and forth, and i'm knitting in the round, i've so far come upon twice an issue of needing to ssk over the st marker/border between rows. the first time, the way i delt with it left a weird bit of YO, but the second time i figured out something that makes a lot more sense and doesn't do that
do i rip back or do i just hope no one notices
my current pasttimes include knitting and watching the production of Much Ado About Nothing with David Tennant and Catherine Tate as Benedick and Beatrice. also sitting on the couch and complaining about how cold it is.
wow literally same?????? catch me knitting a trivet and watching act 1 of much ado about nothing
I’m sorry what the fuck is a trivet??
coaster but for pots
it's looking like i'm not going to have enough yarn to finish casting off, which is a bummer, but the nice thing about knitting is, you can do whatever the hell you want.
which means
accent edge
finally got around to getting the pic onto my computer! it came out really well!
